Men: What to wear to camouflage a beer belly

Now I am not a man and do not have a beer belly, but I am related to several men who sport them. My husband is the proud owner of one and I have had the um.... privilege of seeing many beer bellies all lined up in a row waiting for a pint in my local bar.

I am not entirely sure that all beer bellies are completely caused by drinking too much beer, but that's a whole other debate.

Some men, like my husband, seem pleased with their waist expanding efforts and so if that's you then you will not be needing to read this article. The rest of you who are concerned, read on.

The first thing to take note of before you even begin to experiment with clothing is the possibility that you may have been unknowingly emphasizing your belly by resting your hands over it whilst standing. You may think that you were hiding it but unless your hands are extremely large, chances are you have been actually drawing attention to it. So keep those arms by your sides, or wave them about if you want to to give others something else to watch, but never fold them across your belly.

When it comes to clothing I would suggest something which covers the offending area rather than letting it all hang out. this seems to help. Next I believe its a good plan to wear high waisted dark trousers and a very wide belt in black. A thin belt, in a light colour, would have the opposite effect than is desired by serving to highlight your belly area. Low waisted trousers would not be flattering as their waistband would only be used as a belly shelf.

Tent like structures will only emphasise your girth, so avoid Dennis Roussos styles and adopt clothing which fits, rather than floats too loosely or that which clings.

Double breasted jackets will only draw attention where you don't want it. Therefore single breasted jackets, and preferably those which are not too long, will work best for you.

One of the worst mistakes that a beer bellied man can make, fashion-wise, is to wear their tee-shirts so short that their tummies appear from underneath. This only works on skinny models and on anyone else looks unattractive so try to give this a miss at all costs.

Do, however, wear thick, as opposed to thin tee shits that fully cover your middle and end at the hip area of your body. Tee shirts and tops with a busy pattern though, will emphasise your body shape where the pattern falls. So steer clear of these and adopt plainer, less fussy tops.

Well, I think that just about covers it!
