I used to think that dressing appropriately for your age was just another way that, women in particular, were being molded into what society thought they should be. Having been bought up in a feminist household it is hardly surprising that I felt that way.
In recent years, now having gained a little more experience, I have begun to see that dressing appropriately for your age is actually a positive idea that can help both men and women gain in confidence. There are many social situations in which we are judged firstly by appearance. It doe's not matter if you have a wonderful personality, as that will not even be noticed nine times out of ten, if you are dressed in an inappropriate fashion for your age.
To learn how to get it right we need firstly to assess our bodies. The shape that we are, the firmness that our skin has and appearance of skin texture, are all needed to be taken into account. If you are young and firm with a good shape then you will probably be able to wear more revealing clothes that show a little more flesh than you can when you are older.
If you are still a youngster then revealing too much flesh can be a bad idea as the truth is sadly, that there are some people around who take advantage of children. When it comes to dressing a child, clothing is needed to be chosen that is comfortable and convenient for playing in, and sometimes to suit outdoor activities and groups that the child is involved in that require a certain type of dress.
When we start to age our skin tone changes. So colors that suited us when we were younger may now make us look washed out and unattractive. We can correct this by visiting a color clothing adviser or simply by experimenting ourselves.
When we approach our later years we may find that the fashion available in the high street stores are aimed at younger people and so made particularly to suit them and their needs. In order to avoid making clothing mistakes it can be a good idea to search for a shop that suits the needs and styles of the more mature generation. By this I am not suggesting that we all purchase comfortable slippers and a woolly blanket to hide ourselves under at a certain age, far from it! Many people over the age of retirement dress in a sophisticated and stylish manner that can put some of the younger generation to shame.
It is possible, at any age to dress well by choosing clothes that are well made, out of good quality material, that fit well, and if you also choose clothing that suits your personality and you feel good in you will shine.
