Common Math Misconception
I think the biggest math misconception is that once you leave high school, you won't need those math skills ever again. This is totally wrong!
Both of my kids are in sports. I try to impress upon them the importance of math in sports. The statistics of players, the ranking of teams, the betting on sports teams as to who will win or lose and the calculation of the speed of the ball as it comes over home plate.
Math is everywhere! Just fill out your first IRS form and you'll see how much math you need. Plan on building a storage building outside and lots of geometry comes into play. Be an entrepreneur and create your own business case. In more simple cases, building your own home budget or figuring out how to pay for college or even walking through the grocery store with $100 and a list of items needed all take mathematical skills
Math doesn't end with high school. Math follows us through all of our life and is used in our daily ventures, even if we don't realize it. Spend some time today thinking of just how much we use our math skills and you'll really be amazed.
So - to all teenagers - PAY ATTENTION to your math teacher. What you're learning today will carry you all through life.
