The case against the Kyoto protocol

Despite the need for something drastic, and the Kyoto protocol qualifies, it is not enough to make the problem go away. The Kyoto protocol is fine for countries who are beginning their development, but for a fully developed nation to rearrange it's entire style of life isn't entirely realistic. The enormous amount of money necessary to convert all factories and bring all pollutants into line would bankrupt the country. This is the reason that the President drags his heels where the Kyoto protocol is concerned. His advisor's will tell him the impact this will have. They'll go from being one of the richest nations to one of the poorest in no time.

We also have to remember that global warming will continue, Kyoto protocol notwithstanding. That is the Earths' cycle. To help the Earth, perhaps it would make more sense to support the planting of trees. Lungs for the planet to replace the ones we've cut out would be a good start. I'm not saying forget global warming. I'm saying that the approach has to be sensible to work. It has to be flexible so that it fits all countries and their varied economic and developmental situations. In fact, I wouldn't actually say I was against the Kyoto protocol, more that it needs revision or clarification in some areas.
