Novel excerpts: The Old West meets a modern RV campground

by Reeves

Dawn brings the warmth of the summer morning. Seeking out all the coolness of the night.
The activities are heightened, at Roosevelt's home, as each shade of gray leaves the air for the new day and the warmth that starts to settle in.
We all know, with this much commotion going on, we must be getting ready for a "Ride". I do, so love the "Rides". We get to see so many new parts of the world, by standing in one place. Usually, we get to meet so many new friends and see some old ones.

I love to sing my Opera. With this kind of morning, my tones are needed to help settle down my neighbors that I will travel with. I usually wait until after our "Ride", to sing my sweet songs. To give my vocal cords a rest. But now seems so perfect for one of my songs. So, I will sing for them now and look forward to our "Ride".
After few hours of riding, many new places to look at, we come to a stop.
It feels so good to get out of the cramp area and look around. We each get our own space, food and water. But the others, are still a little upset from the "Ride". We do get to roll around in the dirt, which feels great!
I can hear other new friends, talking about how gorgeous and soothing my opera is to them. They tell me they can here my floating songs all through the hills. So I started with my favorite song. So I will sing to bring a blanket of comfort to all of them.
Usually I don't get to go no further than my new pen. But that is alright. I get to hear the stories.
I heard about the races, and see how everything gathers around my friends when they return. Checking them and pampering them.
I do see some of the strangest behaviors. Many of my friends, don't like shadows. Going up to the trails, from the main road, is especially a spooky area. So many shadows, that even a floating leaf, riding the soft air down to the ground, makes them freak out and go crazy.
Many of the riders, have to get off my friends and walk them through the spooky areas.
One new friend, has a bad problem of staying awake. Her rider, tries to walk her to the beginning of the trail, but suddenly falls down, and falls asleep. I have never seen that before. But after a few minutes, she is up and walking again.
Some of the others, don't like the small stream of water, that their rider tries to get them to cross. The rider walks up to the stream, and takes a long stride across, but my friends just stop. The riders pull and tug, even walks them along the small stream edge, to see if there is a different place they would seem
