The significance of school ranking for colleges and universities

There are a lot of teens out there who still don't understand how important their high school grades are with respect to their ability to enter college or university afterward. These grades are critical - and not just the last couple of years either. It used to be that just grades 11 and 12 affected your ability to continue your education, but the competition out there is fierce now. In order to even rise above the pack you have to have an edge. That edge is grades. Not everyone can excel in sports and make their way into a higher learning academy on those merits. For the rest, academics are essential. To get into a good college or university now, you can presume that your entire transcript from high school will be taken into consideration. This doesn't mean that if you didn't do well in grade eight you are finished. It simply means that you can't afford to be lackadaisical about it. You have to think about your future early, if you really want to have one.

By the time you get into grade eight, you should be thinking about where you want to go to college or university. Plan your future and you will get there. It may be of some help to you if you select a high school with an eye to your goals. For example, if your aim is to pursue literary arts or a fine arts career, you might want to find a high school that tailors it's curriculum to fine arts. It's never too early to prepare for your future.
