Mind, Body and Soul

To every human, there is a science; a harmonization of empirical conclusions, artistic impulses, religious views and outside intervention that concocts every recipe to create an individual. Identity, in its truest form, is all outer coatings scraped away to reveal the intangible marionette that is mind, body and soul. It is a balancing act of these triangular aspects of the human schema that has been dutifully identified and carved out by many religions and cultures, in a desperate attempt to cross the line of ignorance into the spectrum of keen self-awareness. To that end, it has most notably been our neighbors from the Orient that initiated this quest for inner clarification, to elucidate the kaleidoscope of our psyches. If not just establishing an awareness of the necessity for existential equilibrium, societies from the Far East have determined methodology for achieving that balance, as expressed in their religions, art, architecture and general philosophies on life.

Though seemingly elementary, a conscious acquaintance with the functions and characteristics of this three-pronged mobile is the penultimate step to understanding its balance. The mind is the most essential tool a human possesses, it governing the psychological, physical and emotional entities. Basic human performance is incapacitated without proper usage of the mind, where all logic and all reason are produced. The body, though governed by the mind, is also a vessel to embrace and protect the mind. In certain religious beliefs, it is the symbiotic relationship of the body tying the mind and soul to the Earth that is broken when the body dies. Lastly, the soul is the most intricate of the three, believed to be a composition of energy that breeds exaggerated emotions. Certain religions indicate that both the soul and the mind are immortal after the death of the bodya definitive reason to maintain superb condition of the triad.

Numerous scientific studies have illustrated the undeniable connection between art's healing powers and alterations in human behavior. Through visualization of art, all imbalances of human emotion are alleviated and equalized, thus transforming stress into relaxation, fear into creativity and boredom into inspiration. The brain's wave patterns alter, affecting the nervous system, hormonal balance and brain neurotransmitters.
