Fixing common paint problems.
Keeping your house looking nice is high on anyone's agenda, though sometimes niggling little problems take that delight and turn it into a nightmare. These are some paintwork tips that may help you.
Touching up paintwork.
Whenever you paint a room in a water based paint, always keep a sealed jar of the leftover paint stored away. Accidents happen and having exactly the right shade, labeled with the room that was painted and a date helps to get over future problems. Touching in paintwork which is water based is simple, and on a matt surface won't show. When you have a chip in the paintwork, simply fill the area with a standard finishing filler, rub down and paint with the paint you saved for just that kind of emergency situation.
Chair marks.
Often dining chairs or chairs badly placed in a room will knock walls. To overcome forever having to paint that area, do think of having a chair rail fitted in wood. If this is not possible, then using the method outlined above will work very well.
Floor paint.
Floor paint does wear, and looks tatty. If your floor has become messy, when buying a floor paint, you can save yourself so much time and effort by buying a good quality one, and using a roller to put the paint on with a broom handle or paint roller extension. It's easy, quick and looks professional, and rollers are so cheap you can throw it out when you have finished.
Repairing woodwork paint.
Woodwork paint if chipped looks tatty. If you are not ready for a full paint job, chip away any loose area, fill with a good quality woodfiller, rub down and do undercoat the area. A touch in on white paint won't show that badly, although I prefer to paint a whole item, since it gives it a much fresher look.
Outside paintwork.
For windows and doors, having the paintwork intact is essential. It protects the wood from humidity. Never consider painting outside woodwork just after the Winter period, since if bare wood has been left over Winter, what happens is that the wood takes in moisture and by painting it while the moisture is in the wood, instead of getting rid of a problem effectively, you are actually sealing the problem into the wood. Let it breathe, let it dry out and only tackle when it is dry.
Knotting, Primer, Undercoat and topcoat for wooden surfaces.
People get confused because the commercials tell you about one coat paints, though a professional will not use them, preferring to use knotting in areas of wood where the natural knots are seeping resin
