Much of our food now is from all over the world much of which travels by air so with a simple switch to more locally grown food, you are not only supporting your local farming communities but having a positive effect on global warming!
Other food changes that positively impact global warming are to consume organic foods which are not only healthy for you, but the environment and they also taste better too. Several other healthy choices, including the health of the earth is to reduce your meat consumption and fast and frozen food, all of which take up a lot of energy resources to prepare and package and that's not including the gas the cows produce, all of which is harmful in global warming. Even if your change in eating habits is slight, a few meals a week less of these negative foods, it still positively impacts the environment so you may not have to cut out that sun filled winter vacation
Make it a game and get the entire family involved to find ways to save. Check your hydro meter for a couple of days and note the daily consumption before making any changes and then see how much you can lower you can make it or simply start making the changes and watch for your cheaper hydro bill to show you how much you've changed. Calculate your change over a month, year, ten years and you can see how much of a difference you can make. How much of a difference it would be if everyone made these choices seeing just how one home can save? Even if a smaller initial investment is required up front it will pay for itself in leaps and bounds.
Starting with smaller steps in each of our homes and progressing onto larger ones we can each make a difference. In addition to the above mentioned energy consumption tips, we can all get informed and educated on the issue. We can spread the word and persuade others to make changes and we can even get active and lobby government to force change. But even if you don't want to take these extra steps just making small changes inside your home will be a contribution. It does require a conscious choice and each of us needs to make a commitment to ease our burden on the earth and it really is quite simple. The green revolution is coming and the grass is really greener on the other side and we should all intend on keeping it that way.
