How retirees can cut home heating costs

Retirees will need to heat their homes because they will be there all day now, but at the same time, they don't have as much money as they once did.

A good way to cut those heating costs is to get better insulation in your home. Better insulation will pay for itself and is also great for the environment. Good windows have similar characteristics.

Space heaters are a good way to heat a room. Furnaces are more efficient, but since they heat the whole house, they cost much more to run.

Dress warmly. Putting on layers can help prevent those winter chills in a cost effective way.

If you have a room that you don't use anymore, try this idea, which I invented myself. I found some insulation at a garage sale. I had more than I needed and I tried to think about what to do with the rest. I took the insulation and taped it to a piece of cardboard. I put wall paper that I got at Goodwill so it wouldn't look back and wrapped the whole thing in the wall paper. I put this over windows that I didn't need for the winter. This has cut back on my heating bills a lot during the last few winters. I hope this helps a lot.
