Funky hair colors

Crazy fun new hair colors. Why not? Two of my closest girlfriends decided that dyeing our hair all different colors would be a fun new thing to do for a girl's night when we were in our college years. I wasn't looking forward to this and had never really changed the color of my hair. Why in the world would I want to start then? However, I am never one to be the party pooper and pass up some randomness, so I gave in to their reason for doing it, "Why not?"

We went to the store and picked up the most temporary dye we could find in the colors pink, purple and red. Mine was red, but it wasn't a natural looking red, it was a scream at you color of red! So there we were that night, all in our sports bras and sweats, dying our hair just for kicks. I can't begin to tell you how much fun we had and how many times I almost peed in my pants. It was supposed to last about ten washes. My two friends ended up washing their hair about five times that night. Mine looked so wild and outlandish, but I got a kick out of it and decided to keep it for a bit. I figured I would at least let my other friends get a good laugh out of our adventure too. Ultimately, I have to hand it to the crazy new red "do," because it made me feel like a new person. I was one of "those" people with the wild colored hair that I often watched, and wondered about. I liked it. I realized that going back to my natural color made me a little sad. To be completely honest, I didn't even like the way my hair looked until it started to fade. It was so terrible at first! However, I liked the way it made me feel. Perhaps what I enjoyed more was that people perceived me as the person I felt I was inside at first glance for the first time in my life. Before the loud hair, they had to get to know me for a bit before they knew I was a spontaneous person, full of spunk. With the crazy red hair, it was just assumed.

From that point on, I continually added colors to my hair. I got much better at it, as well. Sometimes I get nervous about trying a new color or brand of hair dye, but then I remind myself that it's just hair. It's temporary and it grows. If all else fails, and I hate what I create when I dye my own hair, then I can just go get it fixed at a salon. Who knows, a dramatic mess up may even equal another great change to my look and perhaps I will decide to keep it and make it my own. Why not?
