I have only one sibling and we get along great. We always have. Granted we are only one year apart in age, my parents, nor I can recall a time when my brother and I ever fought. Yes, there was bickering about toys and silly arguments in the car but we never got out of control. To this day he is my best friend. I think the best tip I can give anyone on how to maintain a respectful relationship is to drill it in your kids heads that they are your family. They are blood and nothing comes between family. My parents always told my brother and I, "You all will be family first and forever, don't ever take your sibling for granted because one day they won't be there." I guess it also helped that our parents got along and we did a lot of family things. I think it's also best if you get your kids involved in some activity where they don't have to compete for the lime light. We also have always had the same group of friends. Yes I had my girls and he had his boys but when we hung out at the house, we all hung out together. I don't really know how to explain it or why exactly we are so close but I will say that it was a lot easier growing up knowing I had him on my side no matter how upset he was at me.
