Movie reviews: Cannibal Ferox

the young girl and Rudy comes out of nowhere and they have a fist fight. Mike wins and threatens Rudy with his gun. Meanwhile Joe is getting worse in his hut. Joe waits for Mike to leave and then tells Rudy what really happened at the camp and that Mike had really killed the other guy in their group and chopped his genitals off. Joe tells them how he and Mike found it easy to bully the natives without the younger warriors in the village.

Suddenly we are back in New York again and some blonde lady is showing a group of tourists around. The police arrive and cart her away to the station for questioning about Mike. She thins out and the police are left with a bunch of questions about where Mike has gone.

Back in the village Joe has passed away. Rudy and Gloria go outside and find a brain on a stick for some reason, which my girlfriend informs me is in fact a decayed papaya. The younger warriors return to the village and find Joes corpse in one of their houses and give him a good poking with their spears (at this point you think "hurray gore" but you will be severely let down, as in fact it's just red paint on the end of a twig). Then Rudy and Gloria make a run for it but get trapped by the natives. Mike is found and they proceed to torture the group for a bit and eventually get around to cutting Mikes genitals off. I have skipped a lot here as it is all rather boring. In essence the natives stick the girls in a big pot and Mike kills a few of them and then the natives catch him and chop his brain off. Rudy gets away, gets cut by a twig and then gets eaten by piranha and gets a poisoned dart in the chest. Gloria gets away and turns up again in New York where she has exposed the truth on cannibalism in a book (even though there is no cannibalism in the whole film and for a film called Cannibal Ferox this is somewhat disappointing).

To be honest I had high expectations for this film, not only was the box in the menacing Vipco style that is rather forbidding itself, but I had also heard and read other reviews that surmised that this was "one to watch". This film dashed all my hopes and then proceeded to leave them floundering like a drunk dolphin in a seedy Mexican bar. The story has flaws from the start and most of the New York scenes aren't needed for the story to make sense. The acting was beyond atrocious (this I had banked on anyway). The lack of gore was completely mystifying and it left me in a rather sorry state of bewilderment where I found myself squishing cold refrigerated sausages into tomato ketchup, like a maniac, in an attempt to imitate a cannibal. In the end all I achieved was a large mess on the kitchen sideboard and a rather cross looking girlfriend standing in the door way. This in not a film you should see, ever.
