Sharp dressed man: Fashion tips for men trying to impress women

When dressing to impress women, men should never neglect their shoes. While it's understood that shoes play an important role in a woman's life, this doesn't include just her own. It also includes the shoes her man wears. So tip number 1 would be to always wear a good pair of shoes. Simple, classic brogues (or wingtips, as I think they're called in the States) look good with anything formal, such as a suit or a pair of dress pants and a jacket. Try not to wear a shoe that's too fussy, especially if you haven't been able to spend as much money as you would have liked. If you've had to go cheap, then keep it very, very simple. Don't just stick to black either when it comes to formal shoes, brown can look just as classy, if not more so. Trainers should be restricted to when you're out running, or taking part in some sort of sport, although leisure shoes are acceptable, if the outfit's casual enough and the shoe is of good quality.

Other tips include:

*Never wear trousers that are short enough they show your socks. If you do, then make sure that your socks are the same color as your shoes or color matched with the clothing you are wearing.

*Sportswear should be worn only on the sports field.

*Shorts can sometimes be difficult to carry off, especially for the more mature guy. The difficulty here is, again, the shoes. What do you wear on your feet? Keep the look as casual as you can. Thongs (or flip-flops as we call them in the UK) only ever really look good on a guy if he's walking from the beach to the bar - and then it helps if he looks like Matthew McConaughey, so you don't notice that he's wearing them! The shorts and thongs look can look a little out of place in the city and suburbs, although you might get away with a pair of trainers with the shorts (although think very carefully about this if you're over the age of 17!).

*The debate still rages over whether to tuck in (shirt into trousers) or leave out. I think that if you've got the look right then it really doesn't matter. If you do tuck in then try not to hoist your trousers too far up your waist, as this can look a little bit odd.

*A nice, crisp shirt - linen is always a good choice in the summer - with a pair of casual trousers, or good jeans, and a pair of simple, leather tan shoes can look great. You can dress this up a little with a nice dark blazer, or keep it casual with a heavy wool sweater.

The best fashion advice for men wanting to impress women is to look as though you haven't tried too hard. Not easy, I know. Most of the Latin Europeans seem to manage it remarkably well (not that that's any consolation). However, if you wear well-fitting, good quality clothes you should be able to forget about what you're wearing, safe in the knowledge that you look and feel good. And being comfortable in what you wear is one way to exude confidence, which will impress almost any woman!
