Long, long ago on a TV late at night when John Belushi and Dan Akroyd were on Saturday Night Live, think 70's, people arranged their social lives around the telecast of that show or taped it for viewing later.
It was a time when a celebrity's status went up if they appeared in a guest spot. But alas that era is well and truly over.
With our modern day celebrities many who are famous for nothing more than a season of a reality show or their revolving door rehabs, it's doubtful that a gig on SNL would give them any more credibility.
The show lacks the spontaneity and wit of its heyday. Julie Louis-Dreyfuss was on a recent show and even her comedic talents couldn't save a cringingly unfunny skit about robots having sex. I wondered if she appeared as a favor.
Surely SNL should be put to bed early with nice hot cup of Canceled. Where once it did have the power to make a celebrity, today Oprah or David Letterman would do more for their career than a tired rehashed comedy show.
