There are two possible answers to this question.
Your fixed expenses, like housing, loans, insurance, and other bills generally constitute the largest portion of your monthly budget. Reducing one to two of these expenses can make a major difference in your life, but they generally require major lifestyle changes.
Your discretionary expenses on the other hand, like groceries, gas, and entertainment are more flexible. You can cut down on how much you spend simply by making small daily changes, shopping more carefully, and using coupons and discounts. Eliminating one meat meal a week, one movie, or one long car trip can easily change how much you're spending. This will not, however, make as big of a difference.
Which choice you make depends on your level of commitment, willingess to change, and desire to save.
