How to fight for what you think is right

by Shasta

The attorney told me that I wouldn't have a leg to stand on if I sued
him for sexual harassment. His words were that my chances of being believed
were very slim because I was a nobody and he was very well known in our community.
I had trusted him as my divorce attorney and he would try and bait me into meeting
him in private with promises that my case would go better if I allowed him to have his way. He wanted to have an affair with me. What he failed to realize is that

the reason I was divorcing my husband was because he had cheated on me. I knew
this attorney was married by the pictures of his wife and kids in his office.
I had a bad taste in my mouth for married men hitting on women to begin with. I
had already paid this lawyer all the money that I had and he was making it quite
uncomfortable to have to do business with him. However I didn't have the funds to
change attorneys. He told me that I would lose my house if I didn't go out with
him. I lost my house. I did get my divorce and than I took this matter to the
American Bar Association but I refused to stop there. I knew I was right so I searched for an attorney to take my case on contingency. It was surprising how many
lawyers that would not take my case because he was one of their buddies. I never
gave up and found a lawyer to go to bat for me. I won the cass because the
attorney that I was suing kept changing his story. I was telling the truth and
the consistency proved what actually happened. This whole thing was settled out of
court because he didn't want his friends and family to get wind of his actions.
The American Bar Association disciplined him also. I share this story in hopes
of giving someone else the courage to fight for their rights. There is a rainbow
after every Storm.
