Testimonies: My gifted horse

corral. The 'crazy horse' was trotting around nervously and the current ranch hand, a friendly little man named Jose, ran the horse into a smaller pen then cornered him and took about 5 minutes talking quietly to him before getting the halter on. He brought the horse out and I walked over to him. He was the most nervous horse I had ever seen! He eyed me cautiously, and when I touched his coat, I could feel his skin ripple beneath my fingers. When I asked Jose for the rope, he smiled, handed it to me and walked away, as the horse craned his neck around frantically, looking after Jose, as if to say, "WAIT! Come back! I do not know this person!"

I spoke quietly to the nervous horse, gently stroking his neck until he finally relaxed a bit. Even though he was perpetually nervous, and that nervousness showed in his eyes, he had the kindest eyes I had ever seen. I led him around and he walked quietly beside me. I knew if I could gain this horse's trust, we could do anything together.

I brought him home and began round pen training with him. I had no idea what had been done with him years ago, and also, he had been wild for five years, so I started from the beginning as if he had never been handled before. He 'told' me, through his actions what had happened to him. There was no wild pig. He was extremely sensitive, especially for a ranch Quarter Horse. I assumed the man had probably spurred him, he went into a bucking fit, the man had gotten hurt and the remaining cowboys had then beaten the hell out of him before throwing him away, telling the owner the thing was crazy.

I was always calm yet firm with him, and I found him to be an amazing horse! Very intelligent and extremely sweet, he and I developed a very strong bond almost immediately. He will do anything I ask of him. And when he gets something right I tell him,"Good boy!" and he knows that is what I want. I never knew a horse could have such a willingness to please. I thought that was a trait just reserved for dogs. He can be a bit spooky, so if something scares him, I merely say, "You're all right," and that is his cue that there is nothing to fear. I couldnever, ever betray the trust that he has in me.

We also have a lot of fun together. I have taught him some silly little tricks. when I ask him, "Do you love me?" (or any question for that matter) he nods twice. And then I say, "Then get over here and give me a kiss!" and he stretches his neck and touches his big muzzle to my cheek. when I go out to the pasture
