This two-player game is a great learning game for kids, as well as an entertaining game for adults. Kids can learn strategy, color, and counting, all at the same time.
This is the same basic concept as "Tic Tac Toe," but a little more complex.
Take the playing pieces and drop them into a line of the grid until there is four(4) of the same color in a row. You can go horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. You can also block your opponent from getting four in a row.
The strategy comes in by not only trying to "Connect 4" but by blocking your opponent so they can't connect four.
If you are playing with younger kids, it's a good way to teach them colors and counting. You could say, "Anytime you see three black pieces in a row, put a red piece in the next space." or "Count your red pieces until you have four in a row."
If you're playing with older kids, tell them they have to not only get their four color pieces in a row but they also have to block you from getting four in a row. Tell them they need to come up with a strategy on their own. See what they come up with, giving them tips as needed.
