Is there a scientific consensus about global warming?

Consensus?
How about the 17,200 scientists who have signed the petition urging Congress NOT to adopt the Kyoto protocols? See this link:

In a few years we will look back on this period in same way we now look back on the "tulipomania" that swept Europe in the 1600's. Every respectable scientist of the time was absolutely convinced that tulips held magical healing powers. A whole generation of people ran out and planted tulips, only to find that it was all a scam.

The truth is that the earth periodically gets warmer and cooler. Man hasn't had anything to do with it in the past, there's no reason to think that man is responsible now.
The earth was much warmer than today about 1000 years ago. Ever wonder why Lief Ericcson named Greenland "Green-land?" Because it was GREEN! Duh. What's happening today is that the earth is just recovering from "the Little Ice Age" which started about 1250 AD. We'll warm up another 1/2 degree C, and then we'll start to cool down again. It's really more a function of solar heat output than anything else.
The whole scare over "global warming" is a scam. The fact that so many governments, have set aside so many millions of dollars to fund the research simply means that we are going to be stuck with the scare for a few more years. Today, if you want research money, or if you want a government hand-out for your business, all you have to do is say you want it to fight "global warming" and you get the money. Of course there are thousands of scientists jumping on the bandwagon. It's how they get earn a living.
Be careful about what reports you read. The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - a UN body) releases two separate reports. The first is a "leaders summary" written by politicians for politicians. It is the one that contains all the doom and gloom scenarios. The much longer, and much more difficult to read scientific report is much different. It shows that there really is a debate, that many of the contributing authors have differing views. It is full of "may"s or "might"s instead of the "will"s in the leaders summary. Most news media reporters don't bother to read the real report, just the summary.
But here are a few facts - data from satellites and from weather balloons have not shown ANY warming of the upper atmosphere for as long as they've been taking measurements. NONE! ZERO! In fact, the last couple of years have shown a very slight downward trend. If the computer model is
