With all the single mothers in the world, it is so important to approach your
boss honestly. Tell them why you need a raise and how that you want to stay with
their company but that you need more money to live. I encountered this situation
myself as I was working in the office of this big company. After my first inquiry
was rejected, I tried to improve my job performance. The second time I posed
my boss with the question of a raise, I told him how necessary it was for me
to make more money if he wanted me to stay with the firm. The good news is that
I did get the raise. Although I didn't receive it at my first request, my boss
saw that I was really trying and he seen the sincerity of my desire. My biggest
surprise was that my boss really knew more about my financial situation than I
gave him credit for. Don't be afraid to share with him that you are having a
rough time, sometimes they are more human than we even realize.
