Bikram yoga explained

Bikram Chaoudhury is the Los Angeles based yoga instructor that has risen to fame partially due to his creation of an innovative approach to yoga techniques, including his development of Birkram Yoga, which is also known as Hot Yoga.

Bikram Yoga is intended for rooms that have been pre-heated to 40.5 degrees Celsius, or 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Chaoudhury claims the heat relaxes and expands muscles for more efficient exercise throughout the classes, which typically last about an hour and a half, but can vary depending on the course and instructor. Additionally, the heat plays a huge role in increasing sweat, which Chaoudhury maintains releases more toxins than regular yoga.

The popularity of the Bikram yoga classes can be attirubuted, in part, to Chaoudhury's celebrity clientele at his LA Yoga Center which multiplied after the success of his best-selling book, Birkram's Beginning Yoga class, which was first published in 1979. the book outlines over twenty-five of Chaoudhury position sequences and additional exercises that help users focus on meditation and breathing.

In light of the popularity of his methods, Chaoudhury has taken legal measures to copyright his lectures and exclusively developed practices. As of recently, instructors of Birkram yoga are now required to obtain certification directly from Chaoudhury himself.

Overall, however, Bikram Yoga maintains the benefits of more mainstream Yoga methods. Individuals of all ages will find increased muscle tone and improved immune systems, including respiratory systems which absolutely benefit from the heated atmosphere which typically reaches about fifty percent humidity.
