The Black Sea deluge theory asserts that there was a prehistoric flood that was caused by an overflow in the Black Sea. It was first popularized by an article published by the New York Times in 1996. The theory today is met with a mix of skepticism and applause.
In the years after the initial release of the theory for public consumption it was refined and modified. This theory underwent a number of changes but its essence remained the same. In 1998 a few geologists named William Ryan and Walter Pittman published evidenced that a massive prehistoric flood occurred around 5500 BC.
The problem was glacial melting. The melting of the glaciers from the Ice Age caused the Black Sea to fill up with their water as well which in turn caused it to increase its base considerably.
The water from the Black Sea spilled over into land as far as sixty thousand miles from the original site of the water body. So this is the geological event that shaped the Black Sea as we know it today.
There is considerable scientific evidence to support this theory across the board. The Russian scientist Valentino Yanko-Hombach has done extensive research on the subject and in the eyes of most geologists found enough evidence to validate the theory.
The Black Sea deluge theory is a geological event that helped shaped the world as we know it today. This theory is generally accepted as true in the scientific community and is a cornerstone of historical oceanography.
