How to develop a network of single friends

It can be easier than you think to develop a new network of single friends. From joining organizations to participating in sports, there is really something for anyone no matter what your interests. More than just meeting people, you can use this to learn something new or even get in shape. Here are just a few ideas:

1) Join a local sports team. Most urban areas have largely informal sports teams of all kinds, and you can get fit while doing this too!

2) Start a martial art or something similar. From pilates to yoga, this is becoming a more and more popular way to stay limber, toned and meet new people.

3) Try out for a local play. There are community theaters most anywhere and you are likely to at least get a bit part even if you have no acting experience. By the end of a production you may be surprised at the camaraderie that develops backstage.

4) Volunteer for a good cause. From your local veterinary clinic to helping kids with disabilities there are always great places out there that need more volunteers. So: put yourself out there and find others with the same interests.

5) Clubs and bars. Most people think that going to bars and clubs is the thing to do if you're looking to hook up, but lots of groups of friends go out too, of course! So instead of approaching someone who is solo, sit down at the bar next to a group of people and take things from there.

These are, of course, just a few out of many possibilities!
