Movie predictions: The Simpsons Movie

by Kelly A. Mello

Created on: April 18, 2007   Last Updated: May 09, 2007

Don't have a cow man, "The Simpsons Movie" will be here on July 27, 2007! That's right...Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Marge and of course the half-witted Homer will soon be on the big screen.

The movie, of course, is a spin-off of the longest airing show in TV, "The Simpsons". This animated phenomenon started back in 1989. Along with the dysfunctional nuclear family aforementioned, other characters lend their hands to the whacky adventures and crazy mishaps mostly caused by Homer.

Unfortunately not much is known about the movie's premise. Most likely it will serve as an extended version of the television series. From the trailers that have been aired, it is quite evident that Homer, as per usual, is the cause for mass panic in the town of Springfield. Through a series of events, he is the only one with the power to solve the problem, albeit by accident most likely.

I have mixed views on how I think this movie will do. While the director, David Silverman, has produced a couple of hit movies such as Monsters Inc. and Ice Age, I don't think that the Simpsons rage is as strong as it used to be. Viewers are more interested in Family Guy now. Perhaps that is the reason they decided to produce the movie; to gain a renewed interest. Matt Groening and James L. Brooks will be joining Silverman in the production of the movie, so there is no doubt that these three Simpsons veterans will stay true to the show. Another thing that always helps is that all of the original voices will be in the feature length film, along with a few special guests.
