today, carry any serious effect to them. Aside from paying a company to "offset" what really becomes your "conscience" if not also reducing your "carbon output", many (like Al Gore) refuse to take such a challenge he himself calls for in the rest of the world (by reducing your individual output); he (in only one of his four, vast homes) consumed over 20 times the national family average last year alone (2006). Hardly a clear message for setting a positive example. Let's not forget either that Al Gore, with his amassed wealth, owns the very company he pays himself for the alleged "carbon-offsets" he wants the rest of us to comply with.
Lastly, it is impossible to clarify the myth of "carbon-neutral" or "carbon-offset", as they merely apply to those who can afford to buy their conscience off in the first place, and are never intended to actually reduce the amount of direct pollution created by an individual's waste. Their sole intended purpose is to invest in companies that will advance the notion of wind, solar and other forms of power; all of which are by far more costly (with an estimated $300 billion industry) to manufacture and operate than their current counterparts.
While we must all take seriously the amount of pollution and net effect we have on the world today with our individual and collective waste, "Global Warming" is nothing more than a myth exacerbating the process the world has gone through over the millennia of time, warm and cold, cycle after repeated cycle.
