As an owner of six pet rats, and having just watched Flushed Away, I'm quite excited for the release of Ratatouille! Disney's Pixar has released a number of very engaging animated movies including Cars, Finding Nemo and of course The Incredibles - which all blend well-developed story-lines with amazing animation. Given the somewhat more daring plot of this movie, I suspect that Ratatouille may be the best yet in terms of intrigue and storyline complexity.
The hilarious premise is perhaps the most unusual yet: a rat who wants to become a cook! Well, as a person who does (yes, I'll admit it) attribute human characteristics to their animals I have to say that I buy it entirely. It should make for a good mix of comedy and drama enjoyable by both kids and adults alike, or, at the very least, adult rodent-lovers like me!
The trailers and posters definitely show that this is going to be another no-nonsense Pixar creation that, while appealing to kids, contains enough action and suspense to captivate adult audiences as well. They show, among other things, a fairly nervous-looking rat pinned to the wall and surrounded by knives. I think that sort of imagery sums up Pixar pretty well: both able to keep the action going but also able to keep it light-hearted for the younger members of the audience.
