Should dodgeball be allowed in schools?

Dodge ball should not be allowed in schools. As a former Phys.Ed. teacher, I know first hand the problem of this activity. Many students do not have the same aggression level. Dodge ball is a classic example of the weak getting punked to no end! Parents don't expect to pick their kids up from school with blackened eyes. I should know, one of the worst injuries of my life resulted from dodge ball play. Looking one way, a kid nailed me in the eye from another direction.

The other problem with dodge ball is the P.E. teacher. Many teachers merely roll out the balls for a class. As the kids pound away in war ball, the P.E. teacher is doing his brackets for March Madness. An instructional day would be better served.

Finally, dodge ball has no carry over value. Young people, even in P.E., need life skills. With childhood obesity off the charts, our children would be better served with constructive carry over values tied to fitness. Those of us who survived dodge ball, are now just relics.
