finally, I went back to Cinnamon, pulled the halter off her and went to collect the next mare. Cinnamon could not believe I was not taking her to her stall for dinner! In desperation, she trotted very closely behind me, her head almost next to mine, begging me to take her. I HAD to take her now! It was her turn! Her dinner was waiting!
I turned around, she stopped, and I told her, "I can't get your kid. YOU are the mother. YOU go collect your kid!" I then went to collect Khema and her little son, who were more than ready.
When I came back down the hill, Cinnamon and her little filly were waiting quietly at the gate.
The funniest moment I ever had of horse emotion came from a little sorrel gelding named Roni. Every morning, I walked six horses out to the back pasture to spend the day. I had to make three trips, as I walked two horses at a time, one on each side of me. On that particular morning, Roni was being extra bratty and started making faces at the mare on the other side of me.
"Knock that off!" I growled, as we made our way toward the back gate. I turned them loose and went about the rest of my day. That evening, I went back out to bring them
all in for the night. I opened the big gate and started calling out their names in greeting as they all walked past me.
"Hi Roni!" I called cheerfully as he walked by,and I was met with the ugliest face I ever saw that horse make.
"What the heck is wrong with YOU?" I asked, as if expecting a reply.
And then I remembered the little incident from that morning. All because I had
verbally reprimanded him, he was still mad at me! So not only do horses have emotions, apparently they can hold grudges as well!
