The difference between business casual and the "executive look" is that the executive look is more sharp, but also more basic. Here are a few ways to make the transition without having to wear a suit.
Bring a blazer along- If you decided to wear a soft pink sweater and gray pants, all you'll need to do is put on a blazer to look more professional. It's a great idea to have a blazer at your office if you don't feel like wearing a suit, but are meeting with an important client.
Don't wear open-toed shoes. If you live in a warmer climate, sandals may be incorporated into your casual businesswear. If you need to look like an executive, go for basic black flats, penny loafers, or pumps.
Your nice jeans don't count. Even if they are a great pair of simple, professional style jeans, leave them at home. If you must wear denim, try a denim-style suit set. You'll get the executive look with all the comfort of your jeans.
Wear a dress shirt. If you like to get away with a plain scoop neck or v-neck shirt with your slacks, go for a crisp, ironed button-down dress shirt and wear it tucked in. Finish the look off with a nice belt.
Accessories! You can dress up any casual businesswear with some nice pieces of jewelry. Go for classic gold, which will automatically dress you up. Some baguette style earrings or a cluster of pearls around your neck. Also, make sure to wear a nice watch, preferably gold or silver-colored metal. Also Make sure you don't overdo it with the jewelry, and wear your finest.
Brief it! Lastly, leave your tote at home and bring in your portfolio or briefcase, a great way to make yourself look professional.
