Tips for choosing a messenger bag

When I was a little girl, my mother swore that I would grow up to be a bag lady. She may have said this in jest, but boy! Was she right! I love bags; always have, always will. Although the messenger bag's history is rooted primarily within its name: among members of the working class, and particularly carriers of important documentation.

Through the years, the messenger bag has retained its functionality as an all-purpose bag that allows the bearer to (in many cases) protect, organize, and ultimately carry these documents wherever, whenever with ease.

In recent years; however, the trend of the messenger bag as a fashion accessory or as a suitable (and fashionable) alternative to bulkier backpacks for carrying school books has become widely popular in the western world, including fashion meccas London and New York.

Of course, when it comes to choosing your own messenger bag, you'll have to consider your individual needs. If you are using the messenger bag as an alternative to a purse or briefcase, consider the materials you will be toting inside the bag. If you've got highly sensitive documents on your hands, you may want to splurge a little and go for a bag fashioned from high quality leather or waterproof synthetics that will ensure the safety of your documents.

Messenger bags can be dressed down or up in a variety of different ways. The aforementioned leather alternatives undoubtedly give the bag a classic and professional look that can work with your executive suits, which will give your classic professional attire a youthful flair. Again, just be sure that the leather is high quality and durable, or else you will seem more like an absent-minded professor than a fashionable exec.

Alternatively, many messenger bags are designed using common fabrics such as cotton which can undoubtedly make your bag a valuable piece to add to your casual wear collection. A simple, cotton, black or neutral colored messenger bag pairs wonderfully with fashion forward sneakers for a hip, young look.

The great thing about messenger bags is that they often feature a wide variety of design and are usually fashioned from diverse materials. With such a diverse selection, anyone looking to incorporate a messenger bag into their overall look is sure to find something that is custom-tailored to their individual and unique needs.
