By far the first thing you may notice is smell. Instantly, you'll realize that cigarette smoke buries itself in clothes, carpets, automobiles, and hair. When you recognize this, you'll wonder how anyone could stand to be near you. And in the future you will also find it difficult to be near other smokers after you've quit.
Of course, health benefits may not be instantly noticeable. In fact, your health may appear to be getting worse. You will experience nicotine withdraw symptoms that effect you both physically and emotionally. You may also begin to expectorate phlegm as the tar tries to work it's way out of your lungs. Even though it will be hard to notice physical changes, the reality is that your blood pressure will decrease, your pulse rate will return to normal, and the body temperature to your extremities will increase.
Even with the positive and negative effects of this transition, you will also feel proud that you've consciously decided to save your life and the lives around you. That may be the most important benefit of all.
