Because men don't wear a lot of accessories, a watch can actually say a great deal about the personality of the person wearing it, whether directly or indirectly. While, of course, everyone wants to avoid overgeneralizing or (worse) stereotyping, people do evaluate other people based on first impressions - it is just human nature. Wise people simply remain open to the possibility that their first instincts were wrong.

I am a man with a very unusual watch: my watch has a clip that attaches to a front belt loop, to the right of my belt buckle and the left of my right pants pocket. I wear my watch there for comfort (not dealing with a wrist watch) and, I must admit, simply to do something different than what most people do.

Most watches are, of course, worn on the wrist. A sports-watch likely indicates that a person is sporty, or at least aspires to be - so it can be read as either a pretentious or highly practical item. A generic watch might reflect relative poverty, or a simple devil-may-care-what-I-look-lik e attitude. Really expensive watches, well, you guessed it: it means someone is rich and they want you to know it. Of course, what appears to be a really expensive watch might be a knock-off, so one has to wonder: is there any real point to investing in a Rolex?

So, while a watch doesn't say anything definitive about a person it might give you some clues as to who they are, who they think they are or who they want to be. Personally, I strive to be different - I'm a stand-out-of-the-crowd kind of guy, so I went for an option that was the least conventional, and I'm not afraid to admit it.
