When my daughter was born, I had no clue as to any of the local Pediatricians. I didn't know who I should go to or not, I didn't know where any were located, or anything. When the nurse asked me who I wanted her to call for me, I didn't know. I told her to have whomever was on call to check my daughter over.
Big mistake!
When I got my daughter home and she wouldn't do anything but scream, I knew something was wrong. I ended up at the emergency room. My daughter had a severe ear infection that the wonderful hospital provided Pediatrician missed. My daughter failed her hearing test three times in the ear with the infection; this tells me that the infection was there the whole time and it was missed.
Needless to say, I called every Pediatrician in the phone book to find anyone accepting new patients. I then called all of my friends with babies and asked which doctor they used and if they ever had any problems with getting appointments or any problems with anything from the doctor or nursing staff. I followed most of my friends to one Pediatrician, and he is wonderful! My daughter adores him, your baby will be the best judge of character.
Just because someone is a doctor it doesn't mean they are never wrong. It is okay to question your doctor, your nurse, or anyone else on staff. If you do not feel comfortable with your doctor, it is your right to request a different doctor.
