A law firm Information Technology(IT) analyst is much like an IT analyst in any other practice or company. Although the tasks of an Information Technology analyst can vary from company to company, their main tasks are relatively the same.
An Information Technology analyst is responsible for information services and technical operations. These information services and technical operations include maintaining the LAN(Local Area Network), maintaining remote and desktop computers, knowledge of and maneuverability of all software programs, and maintain voice mail, telephone and Ethernet lines.
Many Information Technology analysts create a budget for their IT department and ensure that the department stays within it's budget. An Information Technology analyst supervises all members of the IT department, and determines the proper avenues to take to keep things operating smoothly.
A law firm's Information Technology analyst must possess the knowledge needed to install, configure and operate all forms of technological office equipment, such as PDAs, fax machines, printers, telephones, laptop computers, desktop computers, and mainframes. An Information Technology analyst also needs to have the knowledge and ability to operate and many different operating systems.
An Information Technology analyst should be knowledgeable of the company's networking equipment, and how their networking equipment is configured. They should know the location of each wireless access point, router, switch, and hub. In addition to knowing the location of these items, they should also know how to troubleshoot them. An Information Technology analyst should also be able to operate multiple types of storage devices and media.
As you can see, an Information Technology analyst whether working in a law firm, or another type of company, has an immense amount of responsibility. Because of the enormous amount of knowledge needed to successfully run an IT department, most Information Technology analysts have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology.
