The best way for you to communicate to people that you are smart is to read a lot of books. Don't have time? Try audio books, I check out audio books from my library all of the time.

Watch a lot of TV? Then try the History Channel, if you have cable, or public television if you don't.

There are certain types of knowledge that is considered "smart knowledge" and other types that are not. If you know how to work on a car that is not considered smart knowledge, although it certainly does take intelligence to know what to do, especially in today's cars. If looking smart is more important to you than actual knowledge, then focus your efforts on things that people do who are considered smart, like computers or chess.

But lastly, why try and pretend you're smart if you're not, or try and learn about things if you aren't interested. If they don't like it, that's their problem, not yours. It takes all kinds of people to run the world, and all types of knowledge. We have to have someone fix our cars or we all will be sitting around at home or walking to where we have to go.
