Messenger bags are functional, hip yet always classic. Plus, they cross gender lines which not many accessories can boast! Nearly everyone can wear this look successfully and enjoy all the benefits of such a spacious bag! However, there are a few things to consider.

First, body size. Both the human body and the body of the bag. If your a petite female, for example, you would probably want to go with a smaller version of the classic so as to not overwhelm an already small stature. Or if you have an unusually large bust-line, you should consider a smaller strap or just wearing it off the shoulder versus the traditional across the chest look - as this could accentuate something that you may not want to draw more attention to. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that the size of the bag is proportional to the size of your body.

Secondly, color and design are important if you want this to be a truly functional bag. Because of the popularity of this item, the messenger bag comes in a wide variety of colors, patterns and material. It's best to go with a basic color like brown or gray so it will compliment the bulk of your wardrobe. If you pick a bright vivid color or something with a pattern, it will limit your options.

Lastly, price is always important. If you know your going to use this item daily, then go ahead and spend a little extra for quality and durability. Avoid thinner material and upgrade to something with leather touches and a strap that offers some longevity. Messenger bags can range from $15 to $515 so be sure to narrow down what is most important to you and you've got it in the bag!
