How to choose a auction site

With sites offering low bid auctions popping up like daisies in the spring time, how do you choose the one that is right for you? To name a few, we have "Bid Clever", "Bid Low", "Bid Nation", "Bid 4 Prizes" and "Mr. Bid Low". There is "e-Lot Bidder", as well as "Low Ball" and Silver Tag Auctions." I am sure there are plenty of others out there that have yet to become aware of them.

As with any on line business you transact, make sure the vendor is reputable and the site is secure. If the site does not use a secure transport protocol such as https, don't even consider them. There are just to many options to take a change on a site where your personal information may be at risk.

Search the internet for any information you can find about the company behind the site. A Better Business Bureau approval would be a very large positive.
As fun and challenging as low bid auctions are, they can be just as addictive and time consuming. That makes ease of use almost as important as cost. I have recently seen an auction site where each bid is almost ten dollars. In their defense, they cap the bidding at a very low dollar amount, thus limiting the number of available bids. My favorite site charges a monthly fee that works out to about twenty five cents a bid. They offer cheap bids but a lot of them, which leads to a high number of bids and a very popular auction.

Choose a site where you are not blind and can check up on all of your bids. You should be able to tell if a bid is the lowest unique bid at the time you make it. You should be able to tell if a bid was already taken and how many others have bid the same amount.

Look for a wide variety of prize and auction opportunities. Prizes from the least to the greatest of items will allow everyone an chance at winning.

As with all things, a little common sense goes a long way. Know what you are getting into before you begin. Then have a blast doing it.
