MY THANKFUL BOX. About five years ago, when I was getting divorced and my young daughter and I were going to living alone again, I decided to make a "Thankful" box. This actually came as an idea because I used it as an excuse for the delightful, beautiful Asian porcelain lidded box I found on sale. It went well with the other decor I bought for our new abode. I am a woman, I can think of excuses to have what I have.

The Thankful box was to hold notes that we wrote over the year about everything we were thankful for, regardless of how trivial it was. On New Year's day, we would read every scrap of paper with each note of thanks. This we did, and laughed over some of the silliest things we wrote, such as "I am thankful that my mother can cook, sort of", or "I am thankful for ice cream", or even, "I am thankful for the man in the moon". And yes, there were those notes that made us both appreciate and love each other more.

We have done this every year since. After all the notes are read, they are put into a small zip lock back with a big scrap of inserted indicating the year of thanks. We sometimes will gather past year's notes and reminisce, laugh, and ponder, and give more thanks that we have what we do, regardless of how minute the things are.

Four years ago, I bought us a house that came with a pelican yard statue. Pelican has been mentioned numerous times in our Thankful box, along with Pooglah and the Peeboo truck, as well as friends, family, pets, and everything. We are blessed!
