as the mouse. The copy/past hot keys also work. Thanks thank thanks.
These are all things that I use almost continuously while typing.
This next item is a place where Microsoft could really take a lesson. It really boils down to naming, but I think it is important. Rather than have a Print Preview option, Open Office uses the title Page Preview. What it gives you is the same thing (two pages up instead of one) but it is a page preview, I don't have to worry about accidentally printing here and wasting a lot of paper. The functions are pretty much the same, but I like the title better.
That said, I immediately missed the Page Setup option. It is probably there, but I didn't see it. I am one who messes around with margins, borders and all kinds of stuff when I start setting up to print. Different printers have different capabilities, and I like to stretch them a bit.
OK, so you guys developing Open Office are great. Putting an export to PDF option in is genius. You don't know how many PDF creators I have downloaded over the years to get my Word doc's into PDF format. Good on you for that one. But I still haven't located the page setup functions.
Here's a little peeve When I mouse over on the top menu, the drop downs drop down slightly to the right. If you pull the mouse straight down, it often pops just off to the left of the drop down, causing it to disappear. If these menus would come down centered under the item, it would make it a little easier. This is not a major issue. But if you're looking to pull the crowd away from Word, it could make a difference. It raises the level of frustration, when the menu disappears on you.
Backgrounds (Gallery)
When I clicked on this option, I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. I finally discovered that if I click tools and un-check the gallery option it goes away, but it was a bit frustrating while it lasted. The other thing was that it dropped all this graphics stuff down and pushed my text page down as well. I found this to be difficult to work with. If I had actually been looking for background images etc, I would never have found it there. The term Gallery implies images, not backgrounds. (at least to me)
Hey! I found columns! It was right there under the Format menu? However, I was a bit frustrated to find that it changes my whole document. I guess this is OK, but I am an out of the box kind of guy. I may want to insert a two column section into a document. How do I do that? If it's possible I will figure it out. BTW,
