Why most people choose a fixed income over owning a business

On average we humans will spend forty five years of our lives working for a living.
Whether we are employed by somebody else or self employed the fact remains you will be in the employment sector for quite a stretch.

For me self employment is the way of the future, you work hard and you get the rewards all to yourself. There's no boss raking in the fruits of your labour.

There's no fixed income to rely on, you cant sit back and skive away the hours till you clock off at the designated time. You really have to work very hard to see any return.

Self employment isn't for everyone, it takes an extremely strong work ethic and talents in many areas of business to succeed.
The business owner must be proficient in sales and marketing, accounts, advertising, time management, customer service and much more besides.

However, the beauty of being self employed is as I have mentioned earlier, the hard work you do is not for the benefit of another, you reap all the financial reward and as the business grows, so does your income.
There's no question of whether your face fits the company image for progression, you are in sole charge of your own destiny.

My advice to anyone who is thinking of packing in the 9 to 5 job to go out on their own is to ask yourself these questions.

What the minimum amount of money you will need to earn to be able to sustain financial stability?

Is there enough demand in your business sector to meet these financial needs?

Do you have the skills, will and determination needed to succeed?

Do you have the stamina to work very long hours in the early days of the venture?

If you can honestly answer no to any of those questions then stick to the safety of the fixed income employment you currently occupy.

With more business start ups failing in the first year than those actually succeeding, it can be one gamble you may regret for many years to come.
But if you are fortunate enough to make it through year one, then the financial rewards are limitless.

Whatever you decide, be absolutely positive you are making the right choice for you and your family, discuss it with them as they will play a vital part in your success, work hard and retirement may come sooner than you think.
