The dangers of declining bee populations

Whether we like it or not, bees are a very crucial part of the food chain. Bees are responsible for a whole lot more than making honey. Bees pollinate a lot of our fruits and vegetables that we enjoy and need for good nutrition. They also pollinate many species of flowers, which can't be pollinated by any other insect. Without these fruits, vegetables, and flowers, many florists and gardeners would go out of business. Bees are responsible for pollinating around three fourths of the food we consume. Who knows, maybe one day we'll even find a substance in the stinger that can help cure cancer or other diseases.

If the number of bees declines significantly, crops all over the world are going to fail. This means a huge food shortage all over the world, and a huge price increase for all kinds of food. This can also result in malnourishment and improper nutrition for many people. While this may be good news for doctors and hospitals, a persons health and quality of life is far more important than money and greed.

According to a major theory, bees are disturbed by the electromagnetic waves given off by cell phones. As a result of these waves, bees are unable to use intercellular communication with other bees and become unable to find their way back to the hive. I never use my cell phone unless I absolutely have to and hope that you do the same. Research done in Germany proves that bees act differently around power lines than they do away from them. This is a serious problem for bees, and although cell phone companies don't want people to know about it, we need to keep the bee population from declining any further.

Since bees are small insects, many herbivores like birds and other insects feed on them. Bees aren't harmful to you unless you're allergic to their stings. Even then, a sting isn't harmful if it's treated right away. Normally, a bee isn't going to attack you if you leave it alone. If the bee population goes extinct, it will cause a major imbalance in the ecosystem. To help the bees survive and thrive, remember to only use organic pesticides, which won't harm the food or bees. If you see a bee in your home, don't kill it. You should catch it and release it outside. Hopefully the DVD release of DreamWorks Pictures Bee Movie will help raise some awareness about the importance of bees.
