Differences between spring, well and fresh running water

Spring water is rain water from a spring or water held in rocks or in soil. The spring water moves downwards the rock or soil.At certain points, the ground water springs up out of the ground. The stream of water can be continuous or intermittent based on the amount of water in the ground. They are classified in the scale of magnitude as 0,1,2,3,4.....8,based on the amount of water gushing out of the spring.A 0 magnitude spring emits no water.A 1st magnitude spring emits water of about 2820L/s.An 8th magnitude spring emits water of about 8 mL/s .The spring water will have dissolved minerals and salts called mineral springs and salt springs. The mineral water or bottled water available these days are distilled spring water. Spring water can be even contaminated as it reaches only a shorter depth in the ground.

Well water is ground water from wells. It is an artificial structure made by digging or drilling. There are also bore-wells for drinking water which is constructed by boring. Most villages have wells and they are source of all household purposes. The wells should be cleaned and wells should be constructed away from all contaminants including sewage tanks. An electric motor can be used to pump water from wells into overhead tanks .The well water contains more minerals than spring water.

Fresh running water is tap water. It is also called drinking water used for drinking and cooking.Running water can be purified with chlorine and water source can be from wells ,rivers or seas.Sea water is treated and used as drinking water in some countries like UK.Much cheaper than bottled water and will contain some minerals and salts.Fluoride is added to tap water in some places in certain countries. In some cases lead can leach into water supply from lead pipes and may cause lead contamination.Only cool running water should be used for household purposes.
