Literary magazine reviews: McSweeney's

It is quite commonsense to read up on something before attempting to write about it, right? (No pun intended) So I typed McSweeny's Literary Magazine on Yahoo! search and what I got is a healthy and entertaining dose of humor - of the high literary type that is. (As if I have any business judging what's high literary humor).

Today is the first time I got to read McSweeney's and what an excellent first time it is - I got to read J. Rentilly's three-part interview on the Kurt Vonnegut, who has recently passed away. I have no prior experience reading Mr. Vonnegut's work but gleaning information from the interview, I reckon he is one author whose work I ought to be including on my short reading list - he's suppose to be a humanist, something that is said of James Thurber too, excellent genre then.

A quick look at the magazine's content showed me several article titles - 5 of them including the interview with Kurt Vonnegut - I clicked, 'Failed Role-Playing Scenarios' By Wendy Molyneux. Entertaining read, funny and original, too.

These two features exemplify the kind of content one might expect from McSweeney's. I'm really glad that I stumbled into these Internet magazine. I checked out the site's 'About' information and the magazine really won me over. Links to the site include 826 National, a group 7 of non-profit organizations dedicated to providing free tutorial services aimed at young kids. 826 National want to improve kids writing skills because they see it as necessary to the students overall literacy. The rest are sites for writers. The magazine's choices of links added value to it's content and added more avenues for writers and readers to discover. I'm very happy to add it to my favorites now and intend to check it out everyday.

McSweeney's is an excellent literary magazine dedicated to humorous stories that entertain as well as educate. I highly recommend it.
