If you enjoy riding motorcycles then there is one place you really should check out. It's called Deal's Gap, NC. Better known as "The Dragon", US129 has got to be one of the best rides that I've ever been on. Outside of the beautiful scenery, this destination has got some of the best motorcycle terrain known to man.

Boasting 318 curves in 11 miles, The Dragon gets its name because, from the air, it kind of resembles the spiny back of the legendary creature. It also has drop-offs, look-outs, cliffs, and an assortment of bikes and high performance cars traveling on it.

At the bottom of the ride, there is a small cafe and motel, with some camping grounds available. And of course, the "tree of shame" where those who have been "bitten" by the Dragon leave behind pieces of their motorcycle. However fun racing through might be, if you keep your head and ride with some degree of sense, it is truly a great ride.

Another great feature of the Dragon is that they have about 4 different cameramen stationed through the ride who take pictures of you and your bike. After you get home you can log-on to their sites and check out or order the pictures of you and your group going around some awesome curves.

Just remember, if you go, ride easy the first time through to get a feel for it, and beware of the soft shoulders. While it is a really fun ride, the Dragon is always looking for a nice snack.
