Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is psychedelia in its purest form, a veritable orgy of sound and genius. It blows your mind starting with the high-energy first track, Fight Test. Fight Test is Wayne's musings on life, and it blends well into the slower, more melancholy One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21. Then comes the album's magnum opus, the Yoshimi suite, made up of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 sets the stage with Yoshimi's back story, and the chorus "Oh Yoshimi/They don't believe me/But you won't let those robots defeat me" quickly becoming a concert sing-a-long favorite. Then Part 2 is a raucous, heavy mix of pure sound and distorted screaming. The rest of the album follows a more melodic and chilled out path, with Do You Realize being very notable as an incredibly beautiful song that can evoke a lot of emotion. This album is one of the Flaming Lips' most commercially successful albums, and it is easy to see why. I would highly recommend this album to anyone, and it will surely go down in the annals of time as an excellent album by an excellent band.
