Wrath of a Mortal: Chapter 3: Life or Justice
Kenneth felt like he had been walking for days. He was walking south towards the outpost, but he had yet to run into any Immaculate forces. He was hungry, thirsty, and in pain, the walking wasn't helping things any. Time slowly but surely passed as time normally does, and eventually night began to fall. Kenneth quickly estimated how far he had walked, considering factors like his injury and his armor slowing him down. He had kept his armor on so he was immediately recognizable as one of the Immaculate forces. Had things gone well, that is, had he run into one of the many patrolling squads, it would've saved him some hassle. However, he had run into none of the patrolling squads even though he had gone a few miles out of his way at points to arrive at points where he knew the squad should be at the given time, and were not.
Something was going on.
He waded his way into some tall grass and laid down in the middle of it. This would have to do for camp this night, he had no supplies. Hopefully the tall grass would hide him from any patrolling enemies as well.
Kenneth woke in the middle of the night to a scream. It was a man's scream and it ended with the sound of blood entering the man's lungs - Kenneth had heard it too many times in his life. He waded through the tall grass and peered out once he reached the edge, making sure not to give himself away. About twenty yards away were five skeletons and a man, all armed. The man seemed to be the leader of the small group. On the ground in front of them laid a dead man, an arrow in his back and a large stain of blood on his shirt where he had apparently been stabbed. A few yards further was a woman, she kneeled holding a small boy, probably five or six, close to her. She was crying hysterically.
"No, please! Leave my child alone! We've done nothing to you, we don't even like the Dragon Blooded! Please! Please! Leave us alone!" The man pointed at her and two of the skeletons wrestled her off her child and held her in front of the man.
The man walked forward and signaled the skeletons to let go. The woman stayed in her place and looked down at the ground sobbing. Kenneth didn't understand why the family had been out at this time at night. They should have been at home, wherever that was, locked in their house. Their clothes were ragged and they were unclean, probably very poor, and untrained
