In the Spoils trading card game nothing personifies the attributes of strength and speed like the Gearsmithn faction. The Gearsmiths are a very well balanced and all around easy to play faction with plenty of good cards and an overabundance of great items. The idea behind the Gearsmiths deck is to deploy high powered yet very quick characters one at a time, or to swarm the field with the "Majig" cards. It an easy deck to build, and not too hard to play so the Gearsmiths are a favored faction in much of the Spoils community.
Many of the Gearsmith characters have a lot of speed and power, Manifold Quasi-Modal Steamwork has 8 strenght and 3 speed, Horsemajig of the Apocalypse Famine has 4 speed, and Tiger Kaiser has a huge 3 attack and 4 speed for early game damage. Other characters like Micromajig Shipping Container have decent attack and defense but have amazing effects, like calling tokens to the field when they die in order to protect your factions influence points.
The Horsemajigs are an interesting bunch. They have about average defense, but excel in attack and speed. Also they come into play when you have a low number of resource points and are able to swarm the field. The interesting thing about the Horsemajigs is that they will continually add strength, speed, or defense to your other "Majig" characters, and that will be most of your deck. This means that your speed can easily climb to over 5 or 6 without much thought involved, and there is no other faction to date that can even come close to achieving such a feat.
Now the Horsemajigs do suffer from a lack of defense and attack, most only have 1 or 2 in the defense department, and a ell played Banker or Warlord type deck could kill them in the blink of an eye. So this is where your items come into play, like Heavy plating. Heavy plating will sacrifice 1 or your speed attributes in order to boost your defense by +4 and your strength by +4 as well. Luteoderm Armor will give you a +2 in these departments without the sacrifice of a speed, Luteoderm Prototype will add +1 to each with a very low threshold cost.
The tactic cards for the Gearsmiths are a bit on the weak side, but good none the less, and many times funny as well. Kaiser Wave will add stats to your characters with the term "Kaiser" in play and 1337! Will allow you to play as if you have one extra resource this turn and allows you to draw a card. Other tactics like Hidden Sandwich make you laugh every time you play it because of the name, but also has the great effect of stopping damage from being taken during this turn.
The cards that are featured have many strange or hard to read titles and subtitles, but make sense to anyone who is computer savvy or speaks "Leet". Securitymajig has the sub heading t1.pWl/lz.j00.14m3r good luck trying to figure that one out, I'm not computer literate enough to decipher that, but maybe some people are, and they have a good laugh when they do. However some of the easier ones to decipher are sub headlines like m4d.sk1llz which would translate to "Mad Skills" so it is fun trying to get the meaning of the encryptions
So in a nut shell the Gearsmiths are a very fast paced faction with plenty of speed and power. They are easy to play and have done very well being played in regional tournaments. For a beginner or veteran they are a great faction that will never fail to produce results.
