The New York Yankees will not challenge the Atlanta Braves record for consecutive division titles. The Yankees have currently won nine in a row, whereas the Atlanta Braves record of fourteen straight ended last year. Can the Yankees continue their dominance for the next five years? Doubtful.

What the Atlanta Braves did between 1991-2005 was absolutely incredible and unprecedented in all of sports. The record will likely never be broken. The Atlanta Braves were able to win division titles with rookies, no-namers, and through injuries. Overall, the Braves were able to overcome great adversity and a small payroll, especially compared to the New York Yankees.

The New York Yankees are simply in too tough of a division. With the Boston Red Sox constantly breathing down their necks, the Sox are likely to win the division sooner rather than later. The Braves often won the NL East by a wide margin, as many of the teams in the East were constantly re-building.

Most baseball fans, I feel, will simply not let the Yankees continue their streak much longer. Unlike the Braves, the Yankees continue to spend millions upon millions on free-agents and contract extensions. Unless a Yankee fan, most followers of the game will be reluctant to see the Braves record be broken by such tactics.
