With today's modern technology keeping in touch with family while traveling is easier than ever. Probably the easiest idea is simply to use your cell phone and call them. With the extended long distance services, using your cell phone is probably going to be a lot less expensive than using a hotel phone. If you dont' have a cell phone, then use the hotel phone. Set a time when you will call them each day. Probably the evening before bedtime might be the best time when everyone will be settling down for the night.
Another method is text messaging or email. If you have a Palm Pilot or other such device that works. Or if you are on a business trip, you undoubtedly have your laptop with you and can send email messages.
And, last but not least, there's always the good-old-fashioned Post Card method. This is especially exciting for children. They love to get their very own mail and to have a picture of where you're traveling makes it even more special.
